What is Sustainable Art?
In my quest to do what I love for a living by being creative and helping others, I have become more aware of ‘how’ and ‘why’ I create and am now more selective with ‘what’ materials I use to create with.
My art is no longer just about the ‘act’ of creating to satisfy an inner desire to express, but extends to be a vehicle that sustains me and my family and ultimately the rest of the world.
If we look at what is happening today, it is evident that our universe is being depleted of its natural resources and is not replenishing them fast enough to SUSTAIN us all. There is also war happening and lives have been lost because we are driven by power, control and money.
“Something needs to be done and I believe that if each of us takes responsibility, if each of us starts in our own back yard, then we can bring about change in the world.”
I now create works that are friendly to the environment, are created in harmony with nature rather than at the expense of nature and that carry messages of sustainability, social justice and peace.
And in creating my art and sharing messages through my art, I honour my ancestors and their intrinsic connection to the environment that has been handed down to me by creating a future for all that is healthy, sustainable and beautiful.
Sustainable Art is art that endures.
Sustainable Art is art that sustains.
Sustainable Art is art that supports.
And if we all support each other to create a sustainable future, then we can make a difference.
